The joint-stock company "RISO DELLA SARDEGNA" was the first rice-factory to be established in Sardinia. The business began in 1951 when Mr. Cesello Putzu, a well-known building manager from Selargius (Cagliari), set up in Oristano the first rice working equipment with a productive capacity of 4 quintals per hour. The beginning of the processing and trading of the rice coincided with the beginning of its cultivation. The latter developed initially thanks to the support given by Mr. Annibale Bertazzoli from Brescia , who realised how good was the quality of the rice produced in the surrounding lands of Oristano. Moreover, Mr. Bertazzoli was the one who suggested the establishment of the rice-factory to Cesello Putzu.
It was soon evident that the growing of rice was going to represent a potential gain for the agriculture of Oristano and therefore the contribution given to it by the rice-factory became essential During these past fifty years, rice cultivation has begum one of the main agricultural activities especially in the province of Oristano, but also throughout the whole of Sardinia. The Sardinian product is known everywhere in Italy for its very good quality and, for this reason, especially the seed rice has found its way on the national markets.
Cesello Putzu's rice-factory too has expanded both its production and sales. In 1979 it changed its trade name to become the "RISO DELLA SARDEGNA S.p.a." joint-stock company and finally by the early ' 90s it definitely conquers the leadership position within the Sardinian Markets. At present, the firm produces 40 quintals per hour, it offers a wide variety of products and presents itself with packets renewed according to the latest European Standards.
The high quality of its product, together with the reliability and politeness that have always characterised its working methods, will be once again the right ingredients to embark on new and lasting business relationships
